Italian Formula 4 Champion Marcus Armstrong will be driving for Prema in the upcoming FIA Formula 3 European Championship. The 17-year-old New Zealander, a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, quickly emerged as one of the most impressive prospects of 2017.
“I’m thrilled to work with Prema in Formula 3, especially after all the success we enjoyed this year in F4,” commented Armstrong. “I know everyone well within Prema and I feel privileged to work alongside such an experienced bunch of guys. From my first laps in F3 I really enjoyed the car. After this December I hope to understand it well so we can hit the ground running in 2018.”
After joining Prema for a combined effort in the Italian and German F4 championship, he barely missed an outstanding double title, ending up right behind team-mate Jüri Vips in the ADAC-promoted series before easing to the Italian title.
For him, the 2017 season was the first full-time one in European racing which adds even more weight to the results he achieved. In addition to the speed skills, Armstrong showed outstanding maturity on and off the track.
“We are thrilled to join forces with Marcus again for his Formula 3 debut,” commented team manager Rene Rosin. “He really put up a brilliant display in his first full-time season in European single seaters and I can’t wait to see him back on-track in Formula 3. He will need to step up to meet the needs of such a challenging series but I’m confident he will be absolutely up for it considering how impressive he was this season and how he kept up with his professional improvement. Our Formula 3 line-up is coming together nicely and we are looking forward to the winter with confidence.”
He is now ready for his next challenge, facing one of the most competitive environments in motorsports. With the support of he Ferrari Driver Academy, he will try to keep up the momentum and continue making strides at the highest level of professional racing.
