Kiwi Hunter McElrea heads to his first Indy Lights oval round for the season at the Iowa Speedway this weekend. Having won the last round in Mid-Ohio, McElrea and the rest of the Indy Lights field face a new track as no driver has raced on the 7/8-mile oval in any previous series. The series last raced at Iowa Speedway in 2018 with eventual champion Pato O’Ward taking the checkered flag.

Linus Lundqvist is on the verge of building an insurmountable lead in series point standings. The 23-year-old Swede leads Sting Ray Robb by 87-points. McElrea sits fourth. 98-points behind Lundqvist.

Iowa will be the first of two oval events for Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires. Iowa Speedway is a .875-mile tri-oval with variable banking that drives like a much bigger superspeedway, with laps under 18 seconds. Qualifying takes place Saturday morning with the race taking place on Saturday afternoon at 12:10pm local time (5:10am Sunday NZ time).
