Australian Formula Ford driver and Queensland based Kiwi Hunter McElrea is heading to the US to test a USF2000 single seater with the highly regarded Pabst Rcing Team. McElrea recently finished fourth overall in the 2017 Australian Formula Ford Series and announced the test after competing in the South Island Endurance Series at Timaru International Raceway last weekend.
“I am also extremely excited to announce that I will be heading over to America in a few days time to test a USF2000 car at Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course with Pabst Racing, one of the top teams in this championship,” commented McELrea. “I hope this is the first step on the ladder towards my aim of Indy Car! The test has been financially supported by one of my supporters, who I want to thank very much.”
“I had a very special weekend making NZ motorsport history with my Dad and Grandad as the first ever family to have three generations to share a race car, competing in a TR86, at the S.I NZ 3 hour endurance race this weekend!
“It was very different to anything I had done and my stint was almost 1.5 hours, you also had to be very aware of the quicker GT3 cars around you. It was very cool to be able to get a Class A podium coming home third in class. A massive thank you to my Grandfather for everything he has done to make this happen.”
