The South Island Formula Ford association have this year awarded the Race Academy/Mygale Formula Ford test to Invercargill’s Evolution Motorsport driver Jordan Michels. Michels, winner of the SIFF Class One championship in his Hydraulink Mygale also stepped up to the New Zealand Formula Ford championship and by the end of this season was one of several driver’s capable of consistently pushing eventual title winner Liam Lawson for race wins at the top level.
Race Academy and Mygale offer the test in one of the factory Duratec Formula Fords to the driver chosen by the SIFF association at the conclusion of each years NZFF championship. A sensational opportunity for the NZ young guns to compare themselves against their Australian counterparts. Hunter McElrea is already showing he can compete with the best, currently holding down third in the Australian Formula Ford Championship.
The strength of the Australian Formula Ford championship and the level of driver it produces places the championship at the top of the list for young drivers wanting to build skills and show their talent, and is an obvious step after the NZFF championship. The professional level of the teams, such as Sonic Motor Racing Services, creates the most challenging proving ground for young drivers.
“Jordan Michels is another fantastic young NZ driver building his talent on the track. His vibrant personality and work ethic have shown, with support from New Zealand corporate entities such as Hydraulink and Bonisch Consulting Group, that he has a huge future in this sport” said Race Academy and Mygale owner Greg Woodrow. “Mygale in Australia, NZ and France are 100% behind Jordan’s career.”
Race Academy is both the Mygale Factory race team and the companies Corporate Event program. This side of the company allows our young drivers direct access to corporate partners with commercial motoring and motorsport programs as a marketing platform.
The test will be completed in the next few weeks at Winton Raceway in Melbourne. Jordan has taken the opportunity of a second test at the famous Phillip Island circuit and will drive the same factory race prepared Mygale Formula Ford that rocketed current Super2 driver Will Brown to prominence.
