Continuous improvement and making more gains are the goals for Jacob Douglas and his team this weekend.  The rookie single seater driver will compete in just his third circuit event as he tackles the fifth round of the 2020/21 South Island Formula 1600 Championship at the Timaru International Raceway.

“I’ve had a test day there a couple of times and feel that it suits my style of driving,” commented Douglas.  “It is a really good track, tight and technical.

“While Teretonga, two weeks ago, was a fast and flowing track, Timaru needs more precision.  It’s more of a driver track with less speed required but more skill.”

The high school student gained his first podium at Teretonga Park, Invercargill, at the third round before Christmas.  The fourth round, again at Teretonga, saw him finish three times in the top five and again, not far away from being on the podium.

“We went into that round with some real goals and came out having gained some valuable experience.”

Last weekend saw Douglas at the New Zealand Grand Prix meeting at Hampton Downs.  The time was spent with the M2 Competition team helping in the Castrol Toyota Racing Series pits seeing the ‘other side’ of single seater racing.

Douglas will be one of 26 drivers expected to take to the grid on Saturday for qualifying and race one.  Sunday sees a further two races to complete the round.
