New Zealand Formula Ford Championship driver Ronan Murphy is excited to finally get his F4US campaign underway this weekend. The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, hosts the opening round of the Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda. Murphy teams up with Toyota Racing Series graduate Spike Kohlbecker, both running with Kiwi Motorsport.
“I really can’t wait to get on track,” commented Murphy. “It’s going to be another one that I’ve never driven at before until first practice, so a little daunting but still a really cool experience!
“I’m quite relaxed heading into Mid-Ohio to be honest, and at this stage I still don’t know much about the competition, so I have really just been focusing on what I can do and doing my best to maximise my preparation with the resources that I do have.
“We had a few issues in testing, meaning it didn’t go quite as planned, but I think we have rectified that so I am looking forward to getting in the car again, and I have no doubt it will be competitive.
“I have some very fast team mates (Spike Kohlbecker) as well who I am sure will be at the pointy end of the field, so I look forward to working with them, and hopefully converting it all into some strong results for the team and myself.”
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this week announced that it will open its gates to spectators on a limited basis for the Vintage Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio.
Qualifying takes place on Friday at 2:20 CDT with a 30 minute race on Saturday (1:40CDT) and a second 25 minute race on Sunday 2:00 CDT.
