North Island Formula Ford have created a Technical Academy training program in association with some of the young engineer’s from the University of Auckland’s Formula SAE program.
Four young engineers, male and female, will join the Giltrap Group NIFF series opening round on December 18-19 at Hampton Downs along with some new young gun drivers to learn how a real race car works and also offer their expertise in solving problems for teams. The team will float around the NIFF teams to learn different skill sets on setup, maintenance, data, race formats and the technical compliance side of the category.
The NIFF committee could see an opening in the category for these up and coming engineer’s to do some hands on training in what is the world’s leading category for aspiring drivers to start their road to the top in. The category is going through a major growth spurt at the moment with very few cars on the market due to demand and a lot of new Formula Ford cars entering the country, especially in the South Island, all which puts into perspective what NIFF are trying to achieve here. The news mid-year of the Tony Quinn Foundation investing $60,000 into Formula Ford in New Zealand this season has inspired new drivers from all categories into Formula Ford.
We have said it before and will say it again, if you want to be the next SVG, Dixon, Evans, Hartley and now Matt Payne, Billy Frazer and Jacob Douglas, Formula Ford is your pathway forward to learn the skill set required.
The Giltrap Group North Island Formula Ford Series bought to you by the Hampton Downs NZ Racing Academy and Yokohama will finally get underway next Saturday and Sunday December 18-19 starting with the $500 Hampton Downs Academy Pole Cheque award.
