Perfection from McElrea at Winton Raceway

Australian based Kiwi Hunter McElrea made a clean sweep at the opening round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship over the weekend at the Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria.

With pole and a clean sweep of all three races, McElrea claimed his maiden round victory and now leads the championship. His Sonic Motor Racing Services team mate Hamish Ribarits Motorsports took second for the round, and lowered the Winton Formula Ford race lap record to 1:25.3543 in the process.

“I’m so happy,” commented McElrea. “This year I have really worked hard in the pre-season to be the best I can be in aspects such as fitness, mental (strength), and even moving away from home to focus on my racing.

“To be leading the championship after round one is obviously very good, because it puts you in a great position for the rest of the year. I’m definitely going to be continuing the hard work to keep this up and aim to replicate this weekend’s results at round two in Queensland.”

Liam Mclellan secured third for the round, a great result for the privateer Spectrum driver with technical assistance from Synergy Motorsport.2018 Australian Formula Ford Championship
