Pedro Piquet from Brazil has won an action packed Castrol Toyota Racing Series preliminary race at Teretonga Park, Invercargill this morning.

Starting second from the grid he won the drag race to the first corner, while pole sitter Ferdinand Habsburg (Austria) got away slowly in the damp conditions and tangled with local driver Brendon Leitch who had started third and had come up alongside him and Enaam Ahmed all who slid off the the circuit.

None of the cars were seriously damaged and should be repaired in time for this afternoon’s main race.

In a separate incident American driver Kory Enders finished upside down part way around the long loop first corner, but emerged from the car unharmed.

Netherlands’ Richard Verschoor extended his series points lead with second place while Thomas Randle (Australia) was third.
