Liam Lawson has finished third in the FIA Formula 2 Championship Feature Race at the British F1 Grand Prix. Logan Sargeant controlled the race, winning from Théo Pourchaire as Liam Lawson gave Carlin another reason to celebrate, securing a double podium for the team on home soil.
“Overall I would say it was an OK weekend,” commented Lawson. “The speed was very good from the car all weekend. In Qualifying I didn’t quite put everything together and that’s on me, we definitely had the car for more. Obviously Logan showed that with Pole.”
Felipe Drugovich got the better of Frederik Vesti on the last lap for fourth. Meanwhile, Jüri Vips made the alternative strategy work to take sixth, ahead of Jehan Daruvala. Marcus Armstrong climbed up from 11th to eighth to secure two points-finishes for Hitech Grand Prix. Jack Doohan and Jake Hughes left their stop late to take the final points, as the Van Amersfoort Racing driver ended his home weekend in 10th.

Lawson had a disappointing Sprint Race on Saturday, finishing last after having to pit for a new nose-cone.
“In the first race it was pretty disappointing, had the (front) wing knocked off in an incident, a tiny bit of contact. I left plenty of space but I guess Theo (Pourchaire) understeered out into me and it wasn’t a bad collision but just the perfect angle to take off my wing so I had to pit, disappointing.”
“Then today, had a good start, just missed a bit of speed in the mid part of the race. I started to come back a bit I think but then had a big lock up towards the end and had to defend a little bit for P3 but it was nice to finally put some points on the board.”
“It seems like it was the first time I’ve done that properly since Bahrain so it was nice to do that.”
Felipe Drugovich continues to stand well-clear at the top of the Drivers’ Championship on 148 points, although Théo Pourchaire has clawed back some ground in second. Victory sends Logan Sargeant into the hunt in third, eight points ahead of Daruvala. A podium finish moves Lawson up five places to fifth on 59 points.
In the Teams’ Championship, ART Grand Prix’s run of points finishes has allowed them to cut MP Motorsport’s advantage at the top of the standings to only 10 points – as 170 points play 160. Carlin skyrocket up from fifth to third on 147, as PREMA Racing fall to fourth. Hitech Grand Prix are in fifth on 118 points.
The FIA Formula 2 heads to hills for Round 8 of the 2022 season. Spielberg’s Red Bull Ring plays host to all the action from July 8-10.
