Fourteen races over four rounds will comprise the 2024 NAPA Auto Parts New Zealand Formula Ford Championship with both North and South Island clubs hosting the competition to decide the 2024 titles. Included in the prize package is a two-day Formula 4 test in the USA for the overall winner with flights and accommodation covered by the category.
The first round gets underway 27-29 January 2024 at the Timaru International Raceway as part of the South Canterbury Car Club Trust Aoraki Thunder Down Under Super Truck meeting. The event will also be the fourth round of the South Island Formula Ford Championship with four races (3 x 10-laps & 1 x 12-laps).
Christchurch hosts the next three race round (2 x 10-lap & 1 x 12-lap) 9-11 February 2024 as part of the Super Sprint meeting at the Euromarque Motorsport Park (Ruapuna).
April sees the final two rounds in the North Island with Manfeild Circuit Chris Amon, Feilding, hosting the third event with four races (3 x 10-laps 1 x 12-laps) 5-7 April 2024.
The final round will be part of the Repco Supercars Championship event at the Taupo Motorsport Park, Taupo, 19-21 April 2024.
Yokohama will again be the control tyre for the series with 16 new tyres allocated for Class 1 cars and 12 for Class 2.
The NZ Formula Ford title will be presented to the overall winner while National Class Formula Ford Challenge Trophies will be awarded to the top Class 1 and Class 2 drivers.
Three other trophies will be awarded during the series.
The Morrie Smith Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the driver who gains first place in the final Race of the third round of the Championship.
The Ron Frost Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the driver who gains first place in the final Race of Round Four.
The Stephen Gillard Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the highest placed “Rookie” of the Championship.
The opening round at Timaru will be live streamed while the Super Sprint round in Christchurch will have TV coverage of two races. The final Round 4 at the Supercars meeting in Taupo will have live coverage on Sky Sport.
Again, the Hampton Downs NZ Racing Academy will offer a $1010.10 cash prize for fastest qualifier at each round. The Tony Quinn Foundation offers a $51,000 travel fund for competitors that compete at all four rounds.
This season also sees an exciting prize for the Class 2 winner after moving the Stealth cars into the Class 1 category. Toyota Gazoo Racing have put up an FT50 test for the winner of Class 2 to encourage these entry level drivers and cars back into Formula Ford.
