Christchurch’s Jacob Douglas put in a top qualifying performance on Friday for the Discount Tire Grand Prix of Indianapolis, putting him second on the grid at the latest 2023 USF2000 Championship powered by Coopers Tires round. Unfortunately, on the first lap of the opening race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, saw him collected by several other cars bringing out a full course yellow.
Douglas was able to salvage 15th and was to start the second race on Saturday from tenth position, moving up to finish sixth.
“Tough day in the office day,” commented Douglas. “But we showed our pace qualifying on the front row yesterday and fighting back with a P6 in race 2 after being turned round.”
Starting Race 3 from eighth turned into a early retirement for Douglas after contact on the opening lap.
The USF2000 teams and drivers will remain in the Indianapolis area for their next round on Friday night, May 26, their only chance of the season to compete on an oval track at Lucas Oil Raceway Park.
