Sharp back on track for NZ Grand Prix meeting

The goal for Christchurch driver Louis Sharp remains the same despite the glamour of heading to the New Zealand Grand Prix meeting this weekend.    It’s the fifth round of the Hi-Q Components 2020/21 NZ Formula First Championship which returns to Hampton Downs in the north Waikato in support of the Castrol Toyota Racing Series.

“The goal still stays the same, to get our first podium in the series,” commented Sharp.  “We will run new tyres, the engine has had a refresh and Hampton Downs is now a track I have been to before.  We will know if we are on the pace come first practice which I am really looking forward to.”

The team have come off a difficult fourth round at Taupo a fortnight ago.  Cracks in the chassis were discovered after the first race on the Saturday afternoon as a result of a clash at the third round in Pukekohe before Christmas.  While the team repaired the car overnight, in time for Sunday’s racing, the second outing brought about more cracks.  Sharp was unable to start the final race having brought the car home for two eighth placings despite an ill-handling car.

The teenager has dropped down to sixth on the overall points table but confident he can make up lost ground.
