‘Get your entries in early’ is the message from the South Island Formula Ford Club after having received strong interest in competing this season from its members.

“Indications are that we will continue to see large fields competing across all rounds again this coming season,” commented club chairman Derek Wilson.

At this stage the calendar is still on hold, waiting confirmation of the summer series by Speed Works and MotorSport NZ.

The committee and subcommittee have submitted a draft of the coming 2020/21 season’s Schedule SIF. The main draft changes include allowing Ivey valves, which are widely used in the USA.   The committee has also reinstated the 40mm minimum ride height and this includes skid blocks.

In order to line up all Class three cars with the North Island Historic class, approval has been given to use the Motorsport manifold as an option for all Class 3/Historics.

With technical integrity a key for the category, steps are also being made to beef up the technical team and inspections for the coming season.

This week sees the ‘Have a go’ day at the Mike Pero Motorsport Park.  New and potential drivers to the category are able to have a go in a Formula 1600 single seater as a means of moving into the category.  Most participants are making the step up from kartsport.
