Track limits kerb Kiwis in F2 qualifying at The Red Bull Ring

Frederik Vesti put the FIA Formula 2 Championship Qualifying issues that plagued his start to the season firmly to bed, claiming his first pole position in F2 in commanding style. It all came down to his second run after a track limit violation saw his time deleted, plummeting the ART Grand Prix driver to the back of the order at the halfway point.

Track limits played a part for both Kiwi drivers. Liam Lawson set a top five time in the dying minutes while Marcus Armstrong moved well into the top ten, only for both times to be removed for exceeding track limits. Armstrong starts 10th while Lawson qualifies 14th.

Jüri Vips was unable to pip Vesti at the last minute and the two were barely separated by three-thousandths of a second. Logan Sargeant put himself firmly in the fight at the front with third, as Ayumu Iwasa blazed up to fourth with a last gasp attempt at the chequered flag.
