So tight was the second Castrol Toyota Racing Series qualifying session at Teretonga Park in Invercargill that just 1/10th of a second covered the top six qualifiers. Jackson Walls from Australia set the fastest time ahead of Kiwi Liam Lawson on Sunday at the second round. The qualifying session determines the grid for the feature race of the round with the Spirit of the Nation Cup up for contention.

“When the team told me I was P1, I thought it was P11,” said a surprised Walls.

Although Lawson starts second he was smiling on exiting the car.

“Never the perfect lap, still a few mistakes. Credit to Jackson, he must have put in a pretty good lap. For us we made some big changes from yesterday and I think we can go better.

“I made a little mistake in turn 1 then I had a car go off the track ahead of me at the last turn which compromised my exit a little.

“It is extremely close but that is what this place (Teretonga) is about. There are only four corners so it is about getting the entire lap right.

Yesterday’s race 1 winner Caio Collet (pictured) could only manage seventh fastest time.
