Whitley selected for next W Series phase

Alexandra Whitley is one of 28 female drivers moving to the next phase of selection for the inaugural W Series.

Fifty-four drivers took part in a three-day intensive assessment in Austria with judges David Coulthard, Dave Ryan, Lyn St James and Alexander Wurx.

Ten modules were used for evaluation which included driving ability in snowy conditions, fitness and mental agility and comprehensive media assessments.

“I’m really excited and looking forward to the test, these are serious cars with aero packages, down-force and slicks,” commented Whitley. “They are the real deal and fast. It will be challenging but one I am ready for.

“It (the selection process) was a lot of fun. Every single one of us learnt more about ourselves both on and off the track. It was extremely tough, but I enjoyed every minute of it and loved the competition.

“The snow was extremely tricky. I have never even seen the snow fall before, let alone drive on it. It was freezing cold and at times like driving on ice. I adapted quickly, learnt from my mistakes and performed well.”

The 28 drivers will move to the next stage, a four-day assessment in Almeria, Southern Spain where they will test the new Tatuus F318 Formula 3 car that will be used in the W Series. Eighteen drivers and two reserves will be selected to take the grid at the first round at Hockenheim in Germany in May.
