Win and podiums for Armstrong at the Red Bull Ring

It’s been a turnaround in fortunes for Kiwi driver Marcus Armstrong competing in the ADAC Formula 4 Championships in Germnay. Armstrong and his Prema team experienced top results at Red Bull Ring in the third round of the series. Lining-up at the Stirian venue at the top of the driver and team standings, the Italian squad posted two wins and multiple podium finishes to extend their lead in both competitions.

“I’m really happy with the race weekend,” commented Armstrong. “Straight away we were quick from Friday practice and on Saturday we got a double pole by such a margin I was extremely satisified. It’s about time we got some reward for our hard work and getting three podiums with one win in a weekend makes us really pleased.”

In race 1, Ferrari Driver Academy man Marcus Armstrong dominated the early going in Austria by moving from pole to win in superb fashion, while Estonian Jüri Vips made the most out of his Saturday to take a really valuable fourth place despite a tough qualifying session. On the other hand, American Juan Manuel Correa ended just short of the top-10, slowed down by a contact which forced him to fight back from 19th to 11th.

While Race 2 meant two more podium finishes with Correa and Armstrong finishing second and third respectively, it was fifth-placed Vips to impress in race 3. The Estonian cruised to victory as the race ended under caution while his Kiwi team-mate scored his third podium of the event. Unfortunately, Correa was forced to retire after a slight contact caused him a puncture.
