With six championship races completed in the Australian Supercars Series, Kiwi drivers have established themselves in the top five on the leader-board. Fabian Coulthard (Shell V-Power Racing Ford) leads the pack heading to the Perth Supersprint at Barbagallo Raceway in Western Australia this weekend for their seventh (50 lap) and eighth (83 laps) races.
Coulthard starts his 150th round this weekend. He made his Supercars debut back in 2004 at Oran Park in Sydney driving a Holden VX Commodore for Tasman Motorsport alongside the late Jason Richards. Just seven points separates him from fellow Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen (Red Bull Holden Racing Team), with Scott McLaughlin (Shell V-Power Racing Ford) sitting i fifth overall.
“I’m glad to still be leading the Championship, but it could have been so much better,” commented Coulthard. “Our competition had a bad run at Phillip Island, and we have to take advantage on those days, and we didn’t.”
Last year at Barbagallo Raceway the top 21 cars for Sunday’s feature race all qualified within half a second of one another. – This remains the most number of cars within half a second of pole position in championship history at Barbagallo.
