Supercars action is underway at the 2024 VAILO Adelaide 500, with James Courtney leading a bruising opening practice session of the weekend on Thursday afternoon.
The 2010 Supercars champion is a two-time previous winner on the streets of Adelaide, and showed he is still quite fond of the famous streets in posting the fastest lap of the first session of the 2024 Supercars season finale.
Drivers spent the 30-minute session finding the limits of the 3.22-kilometre Adelaide street circuit, many of them tipping over it.
The Turn 1 tyre bundle was a popular sight in Practice 1, with a number of drivers hitting the bundle and damaging their front bumpers during the session.
David Reynolds was second fastest with 2016 Adelaide winner Nick Percat third, Percat among the drivers who clipped the barrier during the first hit out of the weekend.
Championship contenders Will Brown and Broc Feeney were sixth and 13th.
On-track Supercars action resumes Friday with a second 30-minute practice session at 1:05 p.m. ACDT, with Boost Mobile Qualifying for Saturday’s Race 23 to start at 5:30 p.m.
Two Supercars races are scheduled across Saturday and Sunday to conclude the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship season.
Brown leads Feeney by 180 points, putting the 26-year-old from Toowoomba in prime position to score his maiden Supercars title.
