Drivers readying for wild Sandown Semi Final, practice begins Friday

Supercars has arrived at Sandown Raceway ahead of this weekend’s pivotal Penrite Oil Sandown 500, with four places in the Adelaide Grand Final up for grabs.

The Repco Supercars Championship will hold two 250-kilometre races this weekend, where of the 24-car field, seven Finalists will battle it out to advance one step closer to a championship.

Gold Coaster Broc Feeney enters the weekend as the top seed, and as a former winner at Sandown is eager to return to the top step and punch his ticket to the title decider.

Ford star Cam Waters sits on the cut line in fourth heading into the weekend, at the same venue where he scored his first career win in 2017.

Thomas Randle says he has “nothing to lose” this weekend, entering as the seventh and lowest seed of the remaining Finalists.

Melbourne native Randle is also embracing Sandown’s motorsport heritage this weekend, sporting a race suit and livery on his Castrol Ford Mustang emulating that of Larry Perkins’ iconic 1990s colours.

Perkins won the 1998 Sandown 500 in the livery Randle has revived, with the Melbourne native hoping for a stroke of good fortune to follow this weekend.

With the feature that a race win from a Finalists earns an automatic ticket to Adelaide, now is as good a time as ever for the 29-year old to break through for his first victory.

On-track action at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 begins Friday with Supercars practice, with Boost Mobile Qualifying, a Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout, and a 250-kilometre Supercars race each on Saturday and Sunday.

At the end of the weekend the top four Finalists will advance to the Grand Final in Adelaide, where the 2025 Repco Supercars champion will be crowned.
