Former V8 SuperTourer and BNT V8 champion Simon Evans is back in a familiar saddle this weekend at the V8 Supercar meeting at Pukekohe after a season racing internationally in the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy.
Evans will be swapping electric power for the mighty 750 horsepower of the iconic Wet & Forget Racing Holden and is keen to put it back in the winner’s circle at the track.
“It’s great that BNT V8s have invited us along to compete in their non-championship round. There are some other great V8 powered machines racing and I will be trying to get the win in the Wet and Forget Holden even if we are just competing for a chocolate fish! I love racing at Pukekohe, it’s the best track in NZ this is of course the biggest motorsport event in the calendar for the circuit racers so it’s cool to be there.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back in the car too. Trying to hustle a 750 horsepower beast around there gets the adrenaline pumping and that’s what it will be all about for us all this weekend. Can’t wait to be honest!”
Evans has enjoyed a successful campaign in the inaugural season of the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy – battery electric zero-emission international motor racing series supporting the FIA Formula E Championship. As the sole driver for Team Asia New Zealand, he was competitive throughout in a field of high calibre drivers, ultimately claiming fourth place in the first championship season with one outright win and multiple top four finishes.
Evans’ usual engineering crew featuring Stephen Giles, Andy Gillies, Matt Houston and Nathan Pilcher will be on hand to run the car, one of fifteen taking part in the non-championship event. The BNT V8s will run three 16-lap races over the weekend. Qualifying and Race 1 will take place on Saturday with Race 2 and Race 3 on Sunday.
