Red Bull’s Broc Feeney has kicked off his weekend on a high, leading the first practice session at the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super440 at Symmons Plains Raceway.
Gold Coaster Feeney – who is scheduled to make his 100th Supercars race start this weekend – topped the opening session on Supercars’ shortest circuit ahead of a busy weekend of racing outside Launceston.
Albury’s David Reynolds was second on the time sheets, just 0.001 of a second (one one-thousandth) off Feeney’s fast lap, in a session where 21 of the 24 entered cars were within half a second of the 22-year old Feeney’s best time.
While there were no major incidents or damage in the session, several drivers ran off the track or down escape roads in the opening session, as drivers pushed to the limits of their cars and the circuit.
The Repco Supercars Championship returns to track at 3:00 p.m. AEST this afternoon for Practice 2, the second and final 30-minute practice session of the weekend.
That will precede two 120-kilometre races on Saturday and one 200-kilometre race on Sunday.
Feeney’s Triple Eight Race Engineering teammate Will Brown leads the championship heading into this weekend’s racing, but was only 12 on the time sheets in the opening session.
