Toyota Australia has officially revealed its first GR Supra Supercar ahead of the brand’s maiden entry into the 2026 Supercars Championship.
Nearly one year on from announcing that Toyota will join Australia’s premier motorsport category in 2026, the GEN3 GR Supra has materialised following extensive development and design by the Toyota Australia design team and homologation team partner Walkinshaw Andretti United (WAU).
A total of six GR Supra Supercars will line up on the 2026 Supercars Championship grid, with WAU to field two vehicles driven by Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood.
Brad Jones Racing (BJR) will field a further four cars, with the line-up of drivers to be confirmed closer to the beginning of the 2026 season.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said that seeing the new GR Supra Supercar in the metal was a proud moment for Toyota and demonstrated its growing involvement in Australian motorsport and the growing TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (GR) brand.
“What a fantastic day for Toyota, GR and for Supercars – the racecar we see here today is the culmination of years of planning and hard work from countless people, and it’s safe to say it was well worth it,” Mr Hanley said.
“The GR Supra will make for an exciting addition to the Supercars grid next year, and we can’t wait to see it in action.
WAU Director Ryan Walkinshaw said “What a moment today is, as the covers come off the GR Supra Supercar – a huge thank you must start with everyone at Toyota, for their trust, their belief, and their support of Walkinshaw Andretti United. An absolute mountain of work has been poured in to get to this point, which everyone involved should be immensely proud of.
“The program ramps up now, it definitely doesn’t slow down. We can’t wait for the GR Supra to hit the track and turn its first laps in anger, but also for fans to see it up close and personal, starting at the perfect place, Bathurst!”
Toyota is committed to racing in the Supercars Championship for at least the next five years.
It builds upon the brand’s widely popular one-make TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Australia (TGRA) GR CUP that, for the past ten years, has seen over 30 Toyota 86/GR86 lineup on the grid as a support category for select rounds of the Supercars Championship, providing aspiring professional racers the opportunity to begin their career in an affordable grassroots category.
Following its unveiling in Sydney, the GR Supra Supercar will make its public debut at Mount Panorama, where it will be on display for public viewing and performing demonstration laps as part of this year’s Repco Bathurst 1000 in October, with further activity planned across the remaining rounds of the 2025 Supercars Championship.
Toyota’s Supercar testing program will commence imminently at racetracks throughout Australia, all leading into the important wind tunnel and AVL dyno assessments as parity is finalised in preparation for the opening round of the Supercars Championship in February 2026.
