The six-year wait for Supercars’ return to Queensland Raceway ends today, with two practice sessions on-track at the Century Batteries Ipswich Super440.
It marks the first Repco Supercars Championship event at “the paperclip” since 2019, and first at the venue since the introduction of Gen3 Supercars in 2023.
Festivities for the event kicked off in earnest yesterday, with a large crowd welcoming the championship to Ipswich’s Nicholas Street Precinct for SuperFest last night.
Drivers including 2017 Bathurst 1000 winner David Reynolds and Kiwi young gun Ryan Wood are expecting plenty of action at the circuit’s multiple heaving braking zones, and perhaps a bit of
Reynolds was a shock pole sitter at the NTI Townsville 500 last month despite battling illness, showing the 40-year old still has the pace when given the chance.
Wood, meanwhile, sits right on the edge of the championship top 10 with just three rounds to go until the inaugural Supercars Finals.
This weekend’s event is the final round of the Repco Sprint Cup segment of the championship, with the first ticket to the Supercars Finals to be punched on Sunday.
The championship leader at the end of the Ipswich event to be crowned Sprint Cup Winner and earn an automatic entry to the Finals.
Red Bull’s Broc Feeney is in the box seat to take those honours, holding a 220-point lead on the field heading into this weekend.
There are two 30-minute Supercars practice sessions today, with two 120-kilometre races on Saturday, and one 200-kilometre race on Sunday.
