Kiwi rivalry continues at the top of the Australian Supercars Championship leader board as the final endurance round takes place this weekend on the Gold Coast. Shane van Gisbergen has a narrow 19-point lead over Scott McLaughlin while last season’s title holder Jamie Whincup is nearly 400 points further back.

There are 300 points on offer over two races at the Gold Coast 600 with two further rounds to play out in November at Pukekohe and Newcastle. Neither driver has faulted so far this season; both have won six races each. With six races left in the season it is likely to come down to who makes the least number of mistakes.

The newly released Supercars 2019 calendar will see some key changes for next season. The biggest for Kiwi fans is moving the early November round at Pukekohe to September. The organisers are swapping with the traditional endurance opening round, the Sandown 500 held near Melbourne, which will now take place in November.

This is due to freighting issues requiring the series to use sea instead of air freight across the Tasman. This will result in the Bathurst 1000 becoming the opening endurance round. The successful SuperNight race format now moves to the Perth round in early May.
