Kiwi young gun leads practice as frontrunners slip and slide

Kiwi Ryan Wood has picked up where he left off a fortnight ago in Perth, with the Kiwi young gun leading Friday’s first practice at the betr Darwin Triple Crown.

Wood scored his first career Supercars race win earlier this month, the 21-year old looking to continue that hot form in the heat of the Top End.

Championship leaders Broc Feeney and Will Brown of Triple Eight Race Engineering were second and third quickest, while New Zealander Andre Heimgartner and Canberra’s Cameron Hill rounded out the top five.

Hot and windy conditions appeared to have its impact in the session, with several drivers sliding and spinning off track, but none suffering any notable contact or damage.

The Repco Supercars Championship returns to action at 2:55 p.m. ACST for the second and final practice session of the weekend at the betr Darwin Triple Crown.
