Scott McLaughlin has a reduced Australian Supercars Championship lead heading to Australia’s latest permanent race track since the Queensland Raceway opened in 1999.
The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia hasn’t been used by Supercars yet, although most of the drivers have tested in cars outside the category in preparation for the SuperSprint race meeting. The competition is certainly heating up with Shane van Gisbergen just 89-points behind and only ten races to complete for the season.
Arguably van Gisbergen is the in-form driver at the moment, having finished in the top two in seven of the last eight races. Van Gisbergen and team mate Jamie Whincup outclassed McLaughlin with a 1-2 finish at the all-important night race in Sydney a fortnight ago which had double the normal points on offer.
