Scott McLaughlin set the third fastest time in qualifying for the 2018 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 while seven-time Supercars champion Jamie Whincup took pole ahead of David Reynolds.
Provisional polesitter Whincup will lead the field into Saturday afternoon’s ARMOR ALL Top 10 Shootout, while grid positions 11-26 for Sunday’s race are now set.
The Red Bull Holden Racing Team driver turned a 2:04.1093s inside a frenetic final minute, with his final margin over Reynolds 0.1555 seconds and McLaughlin also within two tenths.
“That was a lot harder than last year, because we’ve rolled out and had to smash it out in one session,” commented McLaughlin. “My hands are sore from having to hold onto the steering wheel so tightly. It’s a credit to the engineers, trusting in the set-up that we had last year and putting it back it. It’s really good, and we’ve booked our place in the Top 10 Shootout tomorrow.”
After Practice 6 at 10:00am on Saturday, the ARMOR ALL Top 10 Shootout starts at 5:10pm.
