Mostert’s monster lap leads intense qualifying preview

Chaz Mostert has topped a dramatic Practice 4 at the Repco Bathurst 1000, with the two-time Great Race winner flexing his muscle in the final session before Boost Mobile Qualifying this afternoon.

Mostert’s (No. 25 Mobil 1 Optus Ford Mustang) flying lap of 2:04.6591 is the best of the weekend so far, and led Matt Stone Racing’s Nick Percat (No. 10 Bendix Chevrolet Camaro) and defending Bathurst winner Brodie Kostecki (No. 38 Shell V-Power Ford Mustang) in the 60-minute session.

It marks an impressive turnaround for Gold Coast-based Mostert, who crashed at Griffins Bend in opening practice yesterday.

Chevrolet drivers James Golding (No. 31 PremiAir Chevrolet Camaro) and Cameron Hill (No. 4 Supaglass Chevrolet Camaro) rounded out the top five.

It was an intense end to the final practice of the day, with drivers trading fast laps in what was effectively a dress rehearsal for this afternoon’s Boost Mobile Qualifying.

The fastest 10 drivers from today’s qualifying will punch their ticket to tomorrow’s Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout and the one-lap battle for pole position for Sunday’s Great Race.

Boost Mobile Qualifying begins at 4:10 p.m. AEDT, with the 40-minute session to see drivers lay it all on the line in what is set to be an enthralling afternoon at Mount Panorama.
