New Zealand drivers Greg Murphy and Richie Stanaway only have until tomorrow afternoon to work through getting approvals from within the NZ MIQ Quarantine system or otherwise be granted an exemption by the New Zealand Government, or will be unable to travel to Australia to take their place on the grid at the Bathurst 1000.
The two drivers were announced by Boost Mobile Racing earlier this year as a special entry to the Bathurst 1000 in a move lauded by motorsport fans across Australia and New Zealand, with Boost Mobile also investing significant dollars to bring this idea to life by supporting both the drivers and delivering a custom-built car and enter it into the iconic race.
Enabling the pair to travel both into Australia and a clear approval to return home to NZ would enable Supercars legend Greg Murphy come out of retirement for a Bathurst swansong, while pairing with Stanaway who is keen to show he has what it takes for a full-time drive. While the pair are able to travel to Australia, the uncertainty about their ability to travel back to New Zealand after the race is placing things at significant risk.
With the Bathurst 1000 on the weekend of December 3-5, the race is on to make a final decision by the end of this week, with both drivers required in Sydney for safety fittings and practice sessions as early as this weekend before they would make their way to Bathurst.
