Plenty at stake at Sydney Supernight 300

Sydney Motorsport Park hosts the first Supercars night race on Australian soil for 21 years this weekend. Some are tipping that the Sydney Supernight 300 could be a determining factor in the season’s championship with 300 points on offer, double the normal amount for each round. Adaptation will be the key for drivers and teams, with both light and weather regarded as key performance variables.

The round sees just two practice seasons, a knock qualifying format and a 300 km race on Saturday evening. With just one practice with lights on Friday night, teams will have to get to grip with the effects of cooling temperatures, potential dew on the track and racing under artificial lighting.

With so many points on offer, finishing is a must as not finishing could well see rivals jump ahead on the points table.

Shell V-Power Racing’s Scott McLaughlin brings to the race a 131-point lead over fellow Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen from Red Bull Holden Racing.

1. Scott McLaughlin 2321
