Sunday showdown for Finals hopefuls; three eliminated today

It is elimination day in the opening round of the Supercars Finals today at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.

Three drivers will be knocked out of championship contention after today’s 250-kilometre race on the streets of Surfers Paradise.

Queenslander Chaz Mostert is moving on to the Semi Final at Sandown Raceway next month, following a crushing wet-weather performance yesterday in his Toyota GR Supra.

Another win today would be Mostert’s fourth consecutive victory on the streets of Surfers Paradise.

The 2025 Supercars champion began his title charge last year with a double victory on his home circuit, and will look to repeat the feat today.

While Mostert is safely through to Sandown, Ford’s Kai Allen, Toyota’s Ryan Wood and Chevrolet’s Jack Le Brocq face elimination today, with the bottom three of the top 10 Championship contenders to be knocked out of the title race following the Gold Coast finale.

Allen endured a disastrous Saturday, finishing last after mechanical problems, while Wood struggled to 14th and Le Brocq finished 22nd following an early spin.

At the top of the standings, Grove Racing’s Matt Payne has extended his Championship lead over hometown hero Broc Feeney from just five points to 55, after finishing third yesterday while Feeney slipped to ninth.

Today’s race will decide which seven drivers progress to next month’s Sandown Semi Final, as the battle to crown the 2026 Repco Supercars Champion intensifies.

Qualifying begins at 11:20 a.m. AEST, followed by the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at 12:05 p.m. AEST, before the final 85-lap race at 2:45 p.m. AEST.
