SVG wins at Watkins Glen

Trackhouse Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen won his fourth race of the season, with teammates Daniel Suárez finishing seventh and Ross Chastain 10th in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series road course race at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International. It was Trackhouse Racing’s fifth victory in 2025 and 13th win since it began NASCAR Cup Series racing in 2021.

Nobody could keep up with Van Gisbergen, who led three times for 38 of the 90 laps on Sunday. He retook the race lead with 37 laps to go and held on through a final pit stop sequence to win by more than 11 seconds.

“That’s the stuff you dream about, right,” commented SVG? “I’m just a very lucky guy to get to drive for an amazing bunch of people and just execute. The day went flawlessly, and I can’t believe it. Really enjoyed it. Thanks to everyone.”

He became the first rookie to win four races in the Cup Series. He also joined Chase Elliott and Jeff Gordon as the only drivers to win four consecutive road course races.

Van Gisbergen and Denny Hamlin lead the Cup Series with the most victories in 2025 with four each. The 36-year-old rookie Kiwi continues to be the winningest non-American driver in NASCAR history. He delivered Chevrolet its 11th victory in 24 points-paying races thus far this season.

In Stage 1, Van Gisbergen and Chastain ran second and fourth but finished eighth and 11th after pitting a few laps before the stage break. Suárez held his own before also pitting under green and finished in 23rd. All three drivers pitted early for a better starting position in the second stage.

In the second stage, Van Gisbergen grabbed the lead on lap 25 and held it until lap 36, when he and Chastain, who also raced in the top five, pitted before finishing 22nd and 23rd. Suárez used a slightly different strategy, pitting during a lap 30 caution and finishing the stage in 12th.

The NASCAR Cup Series returns to action on Saturday night at Richmond (Va.) Raceway.
