The TA2 NZ Championship gets underway at Hampton Downs at the end of October with the first of six rounds over the summer. A large field of TA2 cars is expected to take to the grid with a number of drivers yet to be announced.

This week it was confirmed that SP Tools NZ will partner with the TA2NZ Championship as naming rights sponsor for the upcoming 2025/26 MotorSport NZ Premier race season.

The TA2 category features modern, purpose-built race cars powered by 6.2-litre V8 engines, wrapped in bodywork that pays homage to legendary muscle cars such as the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and Dodge Challenger and with identical controlled LS3 engines, gearboxes, drivetrains and suspension, the focus will be on driver skill and talent.

“This is a super exciting Championship built for the fans,” added TA2 Category Manager, Gary Lathrope, “TA2 brings back the sound, the speed, and the style of racing that people want to see. It’s been a long time in the making and we’re proud to be introducing it to New Zealand, and we can’t wait for the lights to go out at Round One.”

Peter Ward returns to the TA2 NZ grid to defend his title as does long standing TA2 NZ driver, and podium finisher John Roberts, Jamie McDonald and Andrew Turner. A number of up-and-coming young drivers are expected to join the field including former Formula Ford and GR86 driver Caleb Byers.
