Waters targeting weekend sweep in Surfers today

Another round of surfboard trophies are up for grabs today at the final day of the 2024 Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.

Supercars holds Race 22 of the 2024 Repco Supercars Championship season this afternoon, with Tickford Racing’s Cam Waters looking to back up yesterday’s dominant win from pole.

The 30-year old from Mildura smashed the field in Saturday’s 250-kilometre race to take his 15th career win and fourth of 2024. It was also a repeat of last year’s heroics when Waters held off a charging Shane van Gisbergen to win from pole in 2023’s Saturday race.

Waters’ teammate Thomas Randle finished second on Saturday, equalling a career-best for the 28-year old, while Carrara’s Broc Feeney finished third to score his first podium at his home race.

Fellow Gold Coaster Chaz Mostert will be looking for redemption on Sunday after an electronic issue relegated him to a 10th place finish on Saturday after looking like a contender in the early going.

Following a seventh place finish in Saturday’s race, championship leader Will Brown heads into today’s race with a 171-point lead on Feeney in the championship, with Mostert 243 adrift.

Boost Mobile Qualifying kicks off Supercars action on Sunday at 10:10 a.m. AEST, followed by the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at 11:35 a.m.

Today’s 85-lap, 250-kilometre race is scheduled to start at 2:15 p.m. AEST, with the famous surfboard trophies to be awarded to the top three finishers.
