Isack Hadjar has finished in the points for his Visa Cash App Racing Bulls team while teammate Liam Lawson has come home 14th in the 2015 Italian Grand Prix at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Italy.
Both were on different tyre strategies after a disappointing qualifying session, with Hadjar starting from the pitlane and Lawson from 18th on the grid.
“It’s the second race in a row that I’m a little bit lost for words,” commented Team Principal Alan Permane. “It was a faultless race and an incredible drive from Isack; starting from the pitlane and finishing in the points.
“We knew with our starting position today, that our race was going to be about damage limitation and that’s exactly what happened. The reverse strategy, coupled with his strong pace, worked very well for Isack, allowing him to take the final point of the race. For Liam, he was obviously starting at the back of the grid where we tried a conventional strategy with an early pitstop, but despite managing to under cut a couple of cars, it didn’t work out.”
“It was a tough race starting from the back,” said Lawson. “We tried something different with the strategy and took a gamble, but unfortunately, it didn’t pay off. We were close, but a few cars came out ahead of us on fresh tyres, and we got stuck behind them, which was really frustrating.
“Had we cleared that pack, it could’ve been a much easier race. The car has been quick, so it’s disappointing to come away with no points. On my side, we didn’t quite maximise the weekend. That said, it’s not as bad as it looks, and we’ll look to turn things around in Baku.”
Racing Bulls remain seventh in the Constructor’s Championship having edged one-point closer to Aston Martin who scored no points with Alonso retiring early in the race and Lance Stroll dropping outside of a points finish with a late pitstop.
Max Verstappen won the Grand Prix ahead of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Piastri has a 31-point lead over Norris in the Divers’ Championship with Verstappen 63-points behind in third.
“We leave the final European leg in a strong position, with another point in the bag,” said Permane. “We look forward to the next race in Baku, which is another low downforce set up, where I’m very sure the car will be competitive once again.”
