The Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, hosts the next race of the Formula One 2025 season, the Austrian Grand Prix. A year ago Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen won the Sprint Race from pole position and went on to set the fastest lap in qualifying for the Grand Prix.
While Verstappen led the majority of the race, it was George Russell who emerged as the winner, his second GP career win after Verstappen and McLaren’s Lando Norris collided as they fought for the lead with eight laps to go.
“It is a unique circuit, being relatively short in length with lap times in Qualifying of only just over a minute and incorporating a significant elevation change,” commented Tim Goss, Chief Technical Engineer for Racing Bulls. “The first half of the lap takes drivers uphill at gradients of up to 12% along three straights separated by right hand corners, before sweeping downhill through a series of fast corners back to the finish line.
“Downforce choice is a balance between needing to reduce drag for high straight-line speeds on the uphill sections for overtaking ability and the need for grip on the fast corners, ultimately leaving us on one of our medium downforce wings. Both drivers have had a productive simulator session in preparation for this race and we take forward some further setup adjustments to maximise the car’s capabilities.”

Racing Bulls sit sixth equal on the Constructor’s Points Table with Haas Racing and three-points ahead of Aston Martin.
“It’s very exciting to be heading to one of our home races in Austria,” commented Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson. “I’ve raced here a lot in the past in junior categories and really enjoyed the track, but obviously in F1 it will bring an entirely new pressure. I’m coming into this weekend with fresh energy following Canada and am ready to fight for points with the team.”
Lawson has had mixed results at the Red Bull Ring in previous categories. He won the Sprint Race competing in 2020 FIA F3 season with Hitech Grand Prix and again in 2021 winning both DTM races with Red Bull AF Corse.
