In the final Super GT Series race in Japan, the MOTEGI GT 250km, Nick Cassidy and Ryo Hirakawa (# 37 KeePer TOM’S LC500) were the race winners but it wasn’t enough to seal the overall Championship. The pairing fell just two-points short with the title going to the #6 WAKO’S 4CR LC500 that finished second, giving drivers Kazuya Oshima and Kenta Yamashita their first Drivers Championship title.
Cassidy and Hirakawa headed into the finale seven-points shy of the eventual winners and accomplished the best result by winning, leaving their fate in the outcome of the race.
“We won the race, had a great season in Super GT but just fell short, again,” commented Cassidy.
Cassidy had already won the 2019 Super Formula Series (single seater) and was in contention for a double series win. Along with Hirakawa the pairing won the Super GT Series in 2017 and finished second in 2018, just three points behind Naoki Tamamonto and ex F1 driver Jenson Button.
