Harri Jones has continued his dominant form at Queensland Raceway with victory in the opening race of round three of Porsche Equity-One Carrera Cup Australia.
The McElrea Racing driver started from second but led the opening lap after polesitter Tom Bewley suffered a clutch issue off the start line.
It was a crushing moment for Bewley after claiming his first career pole.
The safety car was deployed early when 2025 Champion Dylan O’Keeffe had a fluid lead going into turn six.
It caught out Tom McLennan and Diesel Thomas who both made sizable contact with the outside wall, both drivers were able to walk away.
When the race resumed, Jones controlled the pace in front, setting his fastest lap on the penultimate lap, and was never challenged to claim his third straight win at the venue by close to two seconds.
TekworkX Motorsport’s Aaron Love would go on to finish second ahead of David Russell, who made up three spots to claim third.
Fresh from his stint racing in Porsche Carrera Cup Japan, Lachlan Bloxsom finished fourth while Clay Osborne could only manage fifth and lost valuable championship points to Jones.
Max Geoghegan had a career best finish in sixth, Glen Wood moved up seven spots to finish seventh, likewise Angelo Mouzouris in eighth, with Josh Thomas ninth.
Liam Talbot was tenth outright but secured the Tech Specialist Pro-Am win.
It was a thrilling battle for Pro-Am, Talbot wrestled away the lead in the early stages as Matt Belford, Jacque Jarjo and Andrew Georgiadis followed behind.
As Talbot measured his pace in front, Belford, Jarjo and Georgiadis were locked in an exciting battle for the minors.
It nearly ended in disaster in the closing stages as Jarjo tried to go around the outside of Belford through the last turn.
As Jarjo exited the corner, the rear of the car stepped out and came back across the track and went in between Belford and Georgiadis and just missed the pair of them.
In the end Belford would get second while Georgiadis claimed a career best third place after clinching his first pole.
Jarjo was fourth as Matt Slavin completed the top five.
Race two of the weekend will be another 45-minute race on Sunday at Queensland Raceway.
