Monochrome GT4 Australia Silver Cup decided in epic fashion at Hampton Downs

The Monochrome GT4 Australia 2025 season has wrapped up with a bang as the final class title was decided in an epic fashion at GT Festival Hampton Downs.

With the Silver-Am and Am Cup titles decided in Race 1, Method Motorsport’s Tom Hayman and Max Geoghegan sealed the title with a thrilling finish in front a strong crowd at Hampton Downs.

Silver Cup

Tom Hayman and Max Geoghegan have been crowned Silver Cup champions after an epic finish to GT Festival Hampton Downs saw them seal the title by one sole point over Rylan Gray and George Miedecke.

In what was Method Motorsport’s second consecutive title in the class after Hayman won alongside Marcos Flack in 2024, the title came in remarkable circumstances as Hayman guided the team’s McLaren Artura GT4 to the chequered flag by just three tenths of Gray following a late safety car.

Finishing the race in third place and sealing a top-three finish for the season was the JGI Triple Eight Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Jarrod Hughes and Summer Rintoule after the pair secured their sixth podium of the year.

Ahead of them, it was all about the top-two contenders as the battle went right down to the very end. With Geoghegan and Miedecke starting for their respective teams first, it was the former who got off to a quicker start and gained the lead off the line.

However, shortly after, Geoghegan wrestled his way back into the lead where he remained for the rest of his stint, building a decent gap between the McLaren and the Ford, while Rintoule managed to work her way past Jake Camilleri in the Gomersall Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4.

The two leading entries then pitted with around 25 minutes to go in the race and, as a result of yesterday’s victory, the Miedecke Motorsport with Lubrimaxx Ford Mustang was forced to sit in the lane for 15 seconds, while the Method Motorsport McLaren skipped away to a lead of more than 20 seconds.

An incident with 14 minutes to go then brought out a late safety car and erased Hayman’s lead, bunching the field back together and setting up a grandstand finish.

Upon the restart, though, Hayman had a dream getaway and charged out to a one-second lead with less than four minutes to go as Gray tried his best to make some passes.

In the end, though, Hayman was able to hold Gray off as he crossed the finish line first by just three tenths to seal the Silver Cup title.

Silver Am

Cameron Crick and Dean Campbell have bounced back from a disappointing DNF in the opening race of GT Festival Hampton Downs to claim the Silver-Am Cup victory in the final race of 2025.

Taking out second place for the class were Tim Berryman and Daniel Frougas in the GWR Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO 2, while class champions Aaron Seton and Jason Gomersall rounded out the podium in the Ford Mustang GT4.

Crick and Campbell’s win came off the back of a strong performance where the latter made several moves throughout his stint, including a crucial pass on Gomersall right before handing the car over to Crick in a strong position.

Before he handed the car over during the mandatory pit stops, the best performance up until that point had been Jeremy Gray in the JMG Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO 2 he shared with Tayler Bryant, as he took advantage of a slow start from both Berryman and Campbell to lead the class until bringing the car in.

The pit stops saw a shift in leadership as Crick got into the car on top and went to cruise his way through to the chequered flag, with his only major issue coming when Tufflift Racing TSM’s Zac Soutar began to close him down after the Ford Mustang GT4 driver caught traffic. Once he cleared it, Crick was able to break away from Soutar’s McLaren Artura GT4 and comfortably bring the car home.

Soutar’s charge for the Silver-Am Cup podium didn’t last long though, as he eventually dropped to fifth behind the recovering Toyota of Frougas and Berryman, the Mustang of Seton and Gomersall, and the Keltic Racing Toyota GR Supra EVO II of Daniel Gaunt and Tony Quinn.

Am Cup

Chris Lillis and Nathan Callaghan have capped the year off with an Am Cup victory after the pair capitalised on a late spin from Cup Champion Jacob Lawrence in the final stages of Race 2.

Behind the wheel of the Method Motorsport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS, Lillis and Callaghan spent the majority of the race fighting in the battle pack, only to navigate their way through to the front towards the end of the race and get the jump on Lawrence, who had a big spin on the last corner following the frantic restart.

The winners weren’t the only ones to take advantage of Lawrence’s error, with series debutant James Sax in the Kinloch Club / Mach 1 Mercedes-AMG GT4 claiming second, while Glenn Walker rounded out the podium after the Gomersall Motorsport outfit was able to get his BMW M4 GT4 F82 fixed for today after mechanical issues yesterday.

As for the race itself, Sax had actually put himself ahead of pole sitter Ryan Sorensen and led Lawrence in the opening laps with just two tenths separating them.

The Am Cup champion eventually squeezed his way through after 10 minutes courtesy of some fantastic door-to-door racing and the application of pressure on the debutant. As a result of Lawrence’s pass, Sax then ran wide and lost another position to Marcus LaDelle in the 99Motorsport – Hansa Equipment Ford Mustang GT4.

By lap 14, Lawrence and LaDelle had broken away from the rest of the Am Cup field before eventually coming into the lane for their mandatory stops.

Dropping behind LaDelle’s teammate Jarrod Keyte following the stops, the BMW driver managed to chase him down as the clock ticked down, eventually getting the move done with less than 15 minutes to go.

As Lawrence built his lead over the chasing pack, the Porsche of Lillis and Callahan first replaced Keyte and then Sax, before the safety car brought the field back in, setting up a frantic finish that resulted in Lawrence’s spin and handed them the race win.
