Project ’64 gets green-light for Speed Week at Bonneville

Nelson based Project ’64 are heading to the salt flats of Bonneville in the US as the annual Speed Week has been given the green light this year.

Last year Speed Week was cancelled due to excess water on the Bonneville salt flats but the quality of the salt surface this year is enough to open three tracks this coming August.

The team’s 1964 Mini Cooper S has been in storage in California since last year, having been shipped over to the US before the cancellation.

After thorough preparation of the car the team expect to race every day with the aim of breaking their own existing time of 146.6mph in the I/BGCC class and maybe one other class record as well. Speed Week runs from 13-19 August.
