Shane van Gisbergen will start third on his NASCAR Series debut in Chicago. Driving for Trackhouse Racing, the Supercars champion set provisional pole for the first street course race in NASCAR Cup Series history until Denny Hamlin set a quicker time of 88.435 seconds ahead of Tyler Reddick (88.479) and van Gisbergen.
Van Gisbergen initially set the fastest time in Saturday’s final round of qualifying and continued to improve but so did Hamlin and Reddick
The Grant Park 220, a 12-turn Chicago Street Course, is set to go at 9:30am Monday (NZ time)
