The addition of the Sam Fillmore/Jonny Reid pairing for the Three-Hour South Island Endurance Series Brazier Scaffolding Round 2 on Saturday is likely to ramp up the competition which proved quite hot a fortnight ago in Christchurch. Their entry adds a third Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo to the field, joining three Lamborghini Huracan GT3s and a handful of competitive Porsche 992 GT3 Cup cars that will take to the grid at Teretonga Park in Invercargill.
The opening round at Ruapuna saw a very quick Steve Brooks and Bill Riding (Audi R8 GT3) leading from start to finish even though they were chased down by the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of Kane Lawson/Hayden Knighton/Ronan Murphy.
Third home was the Audi R8 GT3 of Luke Manson and James Penrose with Matt Day/Damon Leitch (Lamborghini Huracan GT3) fourth ahead of the Andy Childe/Tom Alexandra (Porsche 992 GT3 Cup).
Hugh Gardiner (Porsche 991.2 GT3 Cup) is the one to beat in the highly competitive One-Hour Class 1,2 & 3 field of 24 cars. However, it could be home advantage to second placed Jordan Michel’s (Marc II Mustang) while Paul Kelly (Porsche 992 GT3 Cup) showed that consistency can result in a podium third place.
Jaden Ransly won Class 2 from Vin Schelp (Porsche) who will be joined by his fast father Marco. Watch for Steve Scoles (Ginetta G55 G56) who is a likely contender for Class three honours.
Christchurch’s Dan Kelly (BMW M3 E46) was too quick for the One-Hour Class 4 & 5 field easily winning the opening round from the experienced Chris Wall (Honda Civic Type R) ahead of Duncan Cundall-Curry (BMW M1 GTR E87) and Donovan Isted (Honda Civic). While Kelly should take the win, it may be a battle for the remaining podium places and Class 5 honours.
The Class 4 & 5 One-Hour race gets underway on Saturday 4 October 2025 at 10:20am followed by the Class 1,2 & 3 One Hour at 11:40am. The Three-Hour race gets underway at 1:30pm in the afternoon.
