Round 5 of the Evolution Motorsport ClubSport Championship took place at Teretonga Park on Sunday with another great turnout of entries in both the Motorkhana and Autocross events.
Twenty-eight competitors tackled the Motorkhana Challenges in the morning before thirty-two competed in the Autocross in the afternoon.
Most of the regular competitors were amongst that number with several new faces as ClubSport continues to flourish in the south.
It was the championship points leaders who picked up where they left off in 2020 as the pacesetter in the Motorkhana Championship, Andrew Lawrie of Invercargill in a Mitsubishi Mirage, took the win from Liam MacDonald in a different car from that in which he started the championship, a Nissan Pulsar. Craig Allan in his Honda Prelude, second on points coming into the round, was third.
The same three drivers were at it again in the afternoon with championship leader MacDonald taking the Autocross victory from Lawrie and Allan. MacDonald’s overall victory also gave him the Stresscrete 1601cc & over class win from Lawrie and Allan while in the Discount Tyres 0-1600cc class Josh Cooper (Toyota Corolla) took the honours from Cole McKinnon and Daniel McIntosh.
The next Southland Sports Car Club ClubSport event is a non-championship event, the Kings Grass Autocross at Rakahouka, just twelve minutes from Invercargill, on Sunday 28 February. The event was first held last year and proved exceptionally popular.
