Reigning Class B NZ Endurance Champion, Lochlainn Fitzgerald-Symes, will join Rowan Shepherd to contest the South Island Endurance Series in an Audi RS3 LMS TCR.
Lochlainn took the 2019 title in a Honda TCR and this season will team-up with international TCR endurance champion, Rowan Shepherd. The pair will compete in one of the three Track Tec Racing Audi TCRs to contest the South Island Endurance Series and National Championships.
Lochlainn will also be racing in the North Island Endurance Series, so it will be a busy couple of months for him. He has competed in motorsport since his early teens, cutting his teeth in MotoX until 2016 when he moved to 4 wheels in the competitive BMW E30 series. Later that year he started racing in the North endurance series in a SEAT Supacopa and more recently racing a Honda TCR.
He’s proved that he is a formidable qualifier and a super consistent competitor during racing in the North Island Endurance Series.
His North Island campaign was halted last year after a serious car crash on the road. With huge determination and an incredible recovery he managed to better the second place of 2018 to become the 2019 NZ champion, You could say Lochlainn has become a front wheel drive specialist making him a perfect driver for the TCR category.
Shepard had originally planned to drive with Holmgaard Motorsport in 2020 at the all 24H events in Monza, Portimao, Spa and Barcelona. With those plans on hold due to the global pandemic situation, he is looking to keep up his TCR endurance seat time here in the South Island which is great news for NZ motorsport.
Track Tec Racing has pulled it’s cars back from Australia after the Covid outbreak cut short their plans to contest the TCR Australia Championship and the Bathurst TCR500 planned for November.
