Mike ‘Buzz’ Lightfoot heads to the opening round of the Toyota Finance 86 Championship looking for a strong start to his season.
Lightfoot heads to the season opening round at Pukekohe Park Raceway, which sees the series run as support to the Supercars series, confident that with a season under his belt, looking to build on the experience he gained in his debut season in the two-seat sports car last year, where he finished the season eighth.
After an off season away from the track, the urge to get behind the wheel again has never been higher and Lightfoot is particularly keen to have a crack at the ‘Masters’ class across the season.
New for the 2016 season is the inclusion of prize money totalling $100,000 from Toyota, something that Lightfoot certainly sees as a positive.
“While there are national championships on the line in New Zealand Motorsport, there’s certainly not many classes that offer cold hard cash, so I’m sure we’ll all be trying just that little bit harder,” says Lightfoot. “It’s going to be great to have the whole team back together again and I can’t wait to get back on the track.”
An action packed schedule sees teams have just one 20-minute practise session before getting straight into qualifying on Friday afternoon. Saturday sees one race at 10:35am, with a further two races on Sunday at 9:05am and 1:25pm.
