Current NZ Formula Ford title holder Jordan Michels is confirmed as one of the first drivers for the 2020 TCR New Zealand Championship, driving a Honda Civic Type R.
The 20 year-old will compete for Team Williams Racing after the car was purchased by Peter Williams.
The Honda that Williams has bought is currently en route to from Europe to New Zealand.
Michels got the opportunity to sample a Honda TCR car at Queensland Raceway last weekend (see picture), and says that TCR New Zealand is the logical next step in his career.
“I think it has everyone excited by it. The same formula in so many countries across the world – that alone is exciting,” he said.
“It’s what New Zealand needs at the moment – a category exactly the same as one that is being run in Australia. It’s the most talked about thing in New Zealand at the moment. There’s TCR and there’s Scott McLaughlin … that’s all NZ fans talk about!”
