With the four-round 2021 South Island Endurance Series set to get underway Saturday 4 September, organisers have now made the decision to postpone the opening round to be held at the Mike Pero Motorsport Park in Christchurch. The newly announced extension to the Level 4 Lockdown within New Zealand leaves no guarantees that the event can go ahead.

“In order for motorsport events (or any event) to go ahead in New Zealand, the Covid alert level needs to be at level 2 or lower,” commented Cate Paddon, Series coordinator. “While we cannot yet say for certain, the committee do not believe there is any reasonable chance to be below Covid level 2 prior to next weekend.”

The season will now start at Teretonga Park, in Invercargill, 17-18 September, which was to be the second round on the calendar. The South Island Endurance Racing Drivers Club committee have confirmed that the following rounds at Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell, 2 October and Timaru International Raceway 16 October will still go ahead.

It has this evening been confirmed that Christchurch will host the final round on 6 November at the Mike Pero Motorsport Park, with the Canterbury Car Club able to offer a secondary date for the Series.
