Auckland driver Rob Steele will enter the Rodin Cars Super GT Series in a Porsche 991.2 when the category gets underway at Highlands Motorsport Park in January.
With a number of previous seasons under his belt including the Porsche GT3 Cup Series in the early 2000’s, the Rodin Cars Super GT Series will break a dry spell from competing in the sport.
“I haven’t raced seriously for a few years, family and business has gotten in the way a little, but excited to get back in the car and looking forward to getting down to Highlands in January.”
“The previous car I raced was the older generation 996 Cup Car which we had some good results in, including the win in the enduro at the A1GP event at Taupo. I’m excited to get into the much newer 991.2 car. I think we should be competitive.”
“The entry list looks good, there is an even mix of the 991 and the 997 cars in the Porsche field. The calibre of drivers looks pretty reasonable as well, and I think some of them will be quite fast.
“I haven’t raced at Highlands before, but am a little more familiar with the other three circuits, so following the first round, we’ll see how the rest of the season goes. There is no reason why we can’t look to get some good results.”
The Steele Porsche entry is supported by Giltrap Porsche, Faradays, SIXT and In Motion.
Each round of the Rodin Cars Super GT Series will feature two 30-minute races along with one 60-minute race, all with a compulsory pit stop.
The Rodin Cars Super GT Series will consist of four rounds over three months commencing January 15, 2022, at Highlands in Cromwell.
Following the opening round at Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell, the series will head to the second round at the Mike Pero Motorsport Park, Rupauna in Christchurch on January 22-23, before heading to Hampton Downs on February 12-13. The final round will be in Taupo on March 26-27, 2022.
